Dr. Harald Haarmann (16.4.1946–) is a German linguist, cultural historian, philosopher and nonfiction writer who lives and works in Finland. Haarmann studied general linguistics, various philological disciplines and prehistory at the universities of Hamburg, Bonn, Coimbra and Bangor. He received his PhD from the University of Bonn and his habilitation (a qualification for professorship) from Trier University. He has worked as a researcher and a teacher at universities in Germany and Japan.

Since 2003, Haarmann has been the vice president of the Institute of Archaeomythology (headquarters in Sebastopol, CA, USA) and the director of IAM's European branch (Helsinki & Luumäki, Finland). He is also the chairman of Association Pro Old Europe.

Haarmann has published more than 80 books and over 450 articles and essays. Several of the books have been published in as many as 17 languages. Haarmann is proficient in a range of scientific disciplines, including linguistics, classical studies, archaeology, history and philosophy.
